To provide comprehensive health
care to approx 16 lakh school children of Delhi Govt./ Govt. Aided schools.
2. Objectives:
- Promotion
of Positive Health (Health Education).
- Prevention
including screening of school children for diseases, deficiencies and
disabilities.
- Early
detection, diagnosis and treatment of common diseases, deficiencies and
disabilities.
- Referral
and follow- up of children who require Specialist attention at the nearest Delhi Govt. Hospitals/ Disp.

Organizational Setup
- School Health Scheme implemented
by Directorate General of Health Services, Department of Health & Family Welfare,
Govt. of NCT of Delhi, which is an ongoing scheme and integral part of general
health services to school children.
- School Health Scheme is
implemented vertically through:
-Head Quarter
-District In-charge - 12
-SHS health teams – 64(Each team headed
by Doctor or PHN)
.Special Referral Centre (SRC) –

District Incharge have been
deputed in 12 SHS district. The
District Incharge is a Medical Officer and is responsible for implementation,
supervision and monitoring of respective clinics within the dist.
Each SHS Team is allotted a
cluster of 10-15 schools in the area where they provide comprehensive health
care services.
Now 64 teams are functioning and
catering to approx 16 Lakh school children of Delhi Govt and aided schools. However, about 3.5 lakh students of
300-350 schools are covered annually.
There are 2 special referral
centers with sanctioned posts of ENT Specialist, Refractionist and Dental
hygienist. Children from nearby schools are referred to the SRCs for availing
their services.
